The Wonders of Virginia

How beautiful is Virginia? It seems like every square inch of it is of some national and historical significance. Add to that its long beaches, the Appalachians and marshes clad in pine. Did you know that this is where the line between the North and the South is drawn? That’s right; you step into Virginia and know that you are in the South when you hear someone with a Southern drawl offering you some biscuits and some ham. It is a very promising place to take a vacation in and now its time to see of Virginia lives up to its promise as a great vacations spot.

As mentioned, this place is very historically significant and you will find the American Civil War Center at Historic Tredegar which can be found in a gun foundry that dates back to the year 1861. It shows the war perspectives from separate groups- the Union, Confederates and African American people.

The Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge is also worth a visit as it is an 8000 acre wildlife habitat that also houses migratory birds. This is a very nice place to visit during migration season. Another place you should go to is the Chrysler Museum where you can find painting by the masters like Renoir, Picasso, Pollock and Warhol. It is a treat for the eyes for sure and will let everyone have an art experience to remember.

After that treat for the eyes, why not get some treat for you stomach? That is right, what is a vacation if you do not sample some local fare? 456 Fish serves some of the best seafood in town; it is an elegant diner that also serves some well cooked non-fish dishes to its customers. Caroline Street Café is the place to go if you are craving some home-cooked salads, soups and sandwiches. Croaker’s Spot is a restaurant that serves lovely seafood like fried catfish with spicy sauce.

Virginia has a lot going for it and there are certainly more things to do than can be crammed here. Take your time to enjoy the spots that you do get to go to and do not rush yourself.

Visit Tucson

Tucson, Arizona’s second largest city and where freight trains go rumbling along their merry way. It is also a college town that exudes a small town vibe that the bigger and more cosmopolitan Phoenix distinctly lacks. It is a very exciting city that has a lot of vibrant energy. It has a large Hispanic community which adds a lot to its cultural diversity.

It is a college town and as expected, there will be a lot of things to do. One place you can go for some fun is the LBT- it is the big daddy of all the gay bars in Tucson and you will find that there is a different theme for every night of the week. One night it could be a barbecue theme, the next it could be a pool party; you will never know what to expect.

Another offbeat place to visit for some night time fun is Asylum where you might have to don your Goth inspired threads and your eyeliner as this is an edgy bar with a decidedly darker feel to it. You may catch free bands on Friday night and you will be happy to know that food and drinks are not too pricy.

A more family-friendly option would be the Fox Theatre which is a very glitzy venue for you and the family to watch some new and old movies as well as catch some dance and theater shows. If you are travelling with children, they will love the place and so will you.

Do some shopping for stuff to remember your trip by and hit up places like Bahti Indian Arts for some Native American handicrafts and Obsidian Gallery for some delightful pieces of art and jewelry. If you still want to more baubles to bring home, make sure that you get to drop by Turquoise Door where the trinkets will hold you in stunned awe.

Once you get hungry, go to Bison Witches, a hangout for college students and the occasional hipster. You will find delicious and simple food that will fill your right up. So remember, enjoy Tucson’s small town feel while you enjoy more cosmopolitan entertainment.

Discover the True Meaning of Seattle’s Best

Seattle’s Best. That is as familiar to everyone who knows all about good coffee. But Seattle is more than just coffee. Yes, it is the Coffee Capital of America as it is a place famous for its heavy coffee consumption reputation. Seattle is home to the home base of Starbuck’s. Seattle’s Best Coffee and Tully’s which rake in billions from across the globe with their coffee franchises. But it is also a place that has attracted millions of visitors from across the globe for it is a city full of surprises.

Seattle is one of the oldest settled cities in the United States having been settled for as far back as over 4,000 years ago. The city has a strategic location, it is on the isthmus between Puget Sound and Lake Washington and it is also a bustling seaport.

Seattle is not just known as the largest city in the State of Washington, it is also not just known to be the place where the vampire army of Twilight fame were born. Seattle is considered as one of the most literate cities in the country and it is also the most progressive and most liberal city. It ranks as the 17th in terms of per capita income, its strong IT industry, aviation, recreational and architectural industries, too.

The ‘green’ technology is also pushed hard in this city in terms of urban design, standards of building construction, energy and climate change. In fact, in February of 2010, Seattle made a commitment to be North America’s first “climate neutral” city with the goal of reaching a zero net per capita greenhouse gas emissions by the year 2030.

The city has also made a commitment to make transportation more public rather than private. They have already made moves to make the city greener by installing commuter rail services, an inner city streetcar network, and a regional Link Light Rail system which should decongest the traffic throughout the city. The target date of completion is 2023 and will connect the traffic within Seattle, disposing of the traffic jams that they are now experiencing.

The city is metropolitan; it is aggressive in its stand to make a commitment for a greener planet. This makes it very attractive not only to investors; businesses, visitors and tourists, but it will also make it more attractive to the green advocates around the globe.
