The Golden Gate Bridge is a primary tourist attraction and is almost 1.7 miles in length. The bridge links the city to Marin County and can be crossed by walking, cycling or driving. The historic cable cars in San Francisco are the city’s only transportation system that has been named on the National Register of Historic Places. The cable car system prides itself as being the only remaining manually operated cable car system in the world. The cable cars operate from Union Square to Fisherman’s Wharf taking 2 different routes and along California Street. The Alcatraz Island is another primary tourist attraction which is located in San Francisco Bay and on Alcatraz Island which is located about 1.5miles from the mainland. The Alcatraz Island is of historical importance and used to house a lighthouse, a military prison, fort as well as a federal prison. From 1972, Alcatraz became a tourist attraction and can be accessed by ferry.

CLIMATE

San Francisco is surrounded by water on 3 of its sides. Therefore, the weather is greatly influenced by the cool currents coming from the Pacific Ocean. San Francisco enjoys a moderate climate with little variation in its seasons. May to October typically sees dry weather with maximum temperatures ranging from 18-21C. November to April sees the monsoon period with maximum temperatures ranging from 14-18C.
